Question by Frank: What is the best 35 mm SLR camera to use for a photography student?
I’m a photography student and I’m having trouble on deciding what kind of 35 mm SLR camera to purchase. I’m looking for something less than $ 500. Also, is it better for me to use a newer model like the Canon
EOS Elan 7NE or an older model, where everything is completely manual? Also I was wondering if there were any camera models out there with both features as well?

The Elan is a fine camera.
You can find good Nikon and Canon 35 mm SLR cameras with a standard zoom lens for under $ 150 on craigslist. Any 35 mm SLR can be used manually, so don’t worry if the body you buy also has auto focus available

Nikon coolpix p60 is a great camera some of the features he Nikon P60 is designed to appeal to camera aficionados with its comfortable handgrip and traditional black colour. The Nikon Coolpix P60 is one of the more interesting point-and-shoot digital cameras on the market, offering an attractive combination of sensible 8 megapixel resolution and 5x zoom lens complete with CCD-shift image stabilization for blur-free images. The P60’s 36-180mm lens is not as wide as the 28mm optic on the older P50 model, but it does offer both a 2.5 inch LCD screen and electronic viewfinder to make composition easier. Unfortunately, given that the Nikon Coolpix P60 is a standard compact-camera, we found the grip to much more cumbersome than useful. Point-and-shoots are typically held between the thumbs and forefingers, making a full-body grip superfluous.
